OPD Pharmacy

A brief training to work in OPD Pharmacy.
It was
 (OBJECTIVES)
1)      Prescription Handling including
a)      Receiving of Prescription
b)      Reading carefully
c)      Checking for any incompatibility
d)     Then keeping the records
e)      Dispensing the medication
f)       Counseling about the taking  of medication
Problems:
1)      There is no defined SOP’s for the dispensing procedures
2)      There is shortage of staff
3)      Present staff is quite unfamiliar with the soul of Health care system
4)      No counseling from Pharmacist
5)      The behavior of staff towards patients is sub standard
6)      A large number of patients to be entertained in short time
7)      Pharmacist is very much over worked
Discrepancies:
1)      Dispensing is done bare handed and direct contact of hands with bulk purchased tablets effects the efficacy
2)      There is no system to provide liquid medications in measured amount
3)      Prescriptions are not in Generic form.

Suggestions:
1)      A brief session about SOP’s should be arranged to educate the Dispensing staff every month.
2)      There should be a separate window for receiving the prescription and dispensing of medication.
3)      There should be proper arrangement to provide liquid and solid medications like envelops and measured syrup bottles.
4)      The role of Pharmacist should be increased as Pharmacy care concept is now Patient based rather Drug based.
5)      Prescriptions should be in Generic form.
6)      No of Pharmacists should be increased to provide necessary consultation to the patients.
7)      Protocols for writing the Prescription should be observed by the physician as some prescriptions are barely readable and may pose problems in case of wrong dispensing and dosing errors.

Extras :
Method to Inject the ARV (Anti Rabies Vaccine).
